Removing commercial bottle labels

I have Tony to thank for the following hint to getting bottle labels off: some glues melt better soaked in hot water, and some better in cold. Bottle labels from Dogfish Head, Brooklyn Brewery, and Sam Adams come off fairly easily after soaking for an hour in cold water.

And if anything is really stubborn, a Goo Gone product should do the trick.

Is the intent to save the bottle or save the label? I'd like to be able to remove the label to keep it, like in a scrapbook, but soaking in water will usually destroy it.

Good point! My focus up to this point has been to make the brewing and bottling process as efficient as possible. So I tend to think about bulk removal of labels for the purpose of bottling five-gallon batches of homebrew.

However, here is a site that may be of help if you want to preserve a particular bottle's label:

Hope that helps!
